It has been three years since the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, but the mystery surrounding his demise remains unsolved. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the murder case registered by Bihar Police in 2020, has not filed a chargesheet or closed the case yet. The agency is still waiting for a response from the US authorities on its queries related to technical evidence, such as deleted chats, emails or posts of the actor.
Meanwhile, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), which registered a case against the actor's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and others for allegedly supplying drugs to him, has sought to record the voice samples of eight accused in the case. A special court in Mumbai has allowed the plea this week. The NCB wants to compare the voice samples with the intercepted phone calls of the accused to establish their involvement in the drug racket.
On the other hand, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has claimed that some individuals have claimed that they possess substantial evidence regarding the case and that the state has reached out to them and requested them to submit the evidence to the police. He said that the state was in the process of examining the credibility of presented evidence. However, it is not clear whether CBI is aware of this new evidence or not.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020. The local police took an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and recorded the statements of several people, including film stars and producers. The post-mortem report then pointed to suicide. Later, a panel of AIIMS doctors who had collected the actor's viscera and autopsy reports in October 2020 ruled out any foul play. The panel informed CBI that it appeared that the actor had died by suicide and not been murdered.
However, a month after his death, several theories about his murder started gaining momentum on social media platforms. There were allegations that his death and that of his former assistant Disha Salian, who had died on June 8, 2020, were linked, and that they had been killed. Based on Rajput's father's statement, Bihar Police registered a murder case against Chakraborty, her family members and domestic helpers working at Rajput's residence. Eventually, CBI took over the case and examined dozens of people, including Chakraborty.
The case has been in the news since then as various angles and aspects have been explored by different agencies and media outlets. However, no conclusive evidence or closure has been achieved so far. The fans and family of Rajput are still waiting for justice and answers.
